LETTERS- The Written Word

LETTERS- The Written Word

If every time i thought of you,

I sent a note or card,

The postman sure, would hate me,

for he’d have to work too hard!

But you can be most sure and certain,

You play a great part, in many pleasant,

Lovely thoughts, that fill my,

                 Mind and Heart.

                                    By Helen Keller.

A very sweet and poignant poem that touches my heart each time i read through it. Honestly speaking, I was spellbound to realize that this poem was written by Helen Keller. yes! that very same person who is famously known to bag a degree, inspite of being deaf and blind. she is that one person who teaches us the importance of each and every person in our lives.

In todays High-Tech world, everyone are so preoccupied with their lives, not with familial or social responsibilities, but rather financial responsibility, to support once family, their well being, that many a times we fail to grasp the reality that this shear inconsideration towards once basic and heartfelt responsibility, is the real reason behind every failed relationship in once life.

After living for 10 long years in a bustling metropolis city. A city wherein life meant just to mind once own business, that prohibited us from having a proper social life and outlawed us far away from our near and dear ones, and simple brought life to a complete standstill. I valued work, more than time for my beloved and considered working to be my ultimate happiness. It was not until i had shifted away to a new city, did i realize the importance of each and every individual that was there in my life. It came to my conscience, that it was not work, but rather the people that i was with that gave me happiness. It was the presence of my dear and near once, that i had not paid much attention too, were the real reason for making my life to be what it was, Worth-living.

Away from them made my life seem as if i were living in an island that had no human existence . Every thing i did or said reminded me of them and in me grew a feeling of loneliness. It was then, that i valued and treasured the meaning of family and friends in life. I decided that if i needed my life to be the same, if i needed me to be happy, i’ll have to treasure my beloveds. so ever since then, just like the good old days, did i start writing and sending letters to everyone that were dear and close to me. Now this may sound really bizzare, that in todays world, where technology has risen to such an extent, that meeting and becoming friends without the need to meet face to face has becme more easy, why would i be sending letters?

Sending letters is a time old tradition that help us convey our true felling and desires across. Now you would think that’s even possible with telephone and internet, and i definitely don’t deny that. It very well is, but the very act of sending letters, tells the person, how much we care about them, that their value in our life is treasured and cherished. This increases the mutual bond with each other and we realize that they will always be there for us, in every step and need in life. I truly believe this, cause i personally practice this in my life, just a simple act of care and concern for my near and dear once, who i’ll always love, cherish and treasure, even after death tears me apart from them. :)

P.S: Value, cherish and appreciate everything you have in life, even that person who you may meet almost everyday and still not realize their value, for they are the priceless fortunes, we need to treasure all our life. Valuing them makes us the most richest person in the entire world…..
